RESEARCH PROJECTS

Research projects where Airyx is involved.

Airyx participates in national and international research projects focused on air quality, industrial emissions, mobile measurement technologies and greenhouse gas monitoring. Our instruments are used by universities, research institutes and public agencies to study real-world emissions and to compare advanced measurement techniques. Below you will find an overview of current projects, peer-reviewed publications and scientific collaborations involving Airyx.

SEICOR – Ship Emission Inspection with Calibration-free Optical Remote sensing

The aim of this research project is the development of a flexibly deployable measuring instrument for the operational monitoring of sulfur and nitrogen oxide emission factors (SO₂ and NOₓ per engine power or per emitted CO₂) in maritime shipping in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) within so-called “Emission Control Areas” (ECAs), as well as for monitoring compliance with NOₓ emission factors in inland waterway shipping. By monitoring compliance with regulations, a level playing field in the shipping industry can be ensured. Thanks to minimal logistical requirements, the system will cover a wide range of applications and can be used within port areas as well as flexibly on riverbanks, e.g., for monitoring the compliance of incoming and outgoing vessels with emission regulations. The data obtained hold great potential and will serve as a basis for optimizing port operations and maritime traffic nodes with regard to energy efficiency and economic viability, environmental protection, and sustainability.
